Today we looked for signs of animals in Mud Lake and then tried to figure out what the animals making them eat during
winter. It was a bright, cold day, with a thin layer of fresh snow covering the ground, so it made for great tracking.
Animals We Observed
white-breasted nuthatch
black-capped chickadees
downy woodpeckers (male and female)
crows
Tracks We Observed
grey squirrel
red squirrel
vole
mole
eastern cottontail
beaver
bird wing marks
Since we didn't actually see any of the animals, we wonder when these animals were out making these tracks? Hopefully we'll be able to observe more animal activity over the next few weeks, and who knows, maybe we'll even get to see some of the animals making the tracks!
